Vlajko Lalić, b. 1959-1989

Vlajko Lalić (1959–1989) was a Serbian jazz pianist and musician. He was the first son of Branka and Ivan Lalić. He was born in Zagreb, and grew up in Belgrade where he studied piano from a young age. Vlajko was awarded a full scholarship to study piano at Bennington college, Vermont, after winning first prize at the Jeunesse Musicale international youth musician competition in 1974. He moved to Amsterdam in 1988 to work as a professional pianist, giving concerts in Holland and Italy. In this time he began recording his first album. Vlajko passed away a year later at the age of 29 in a sailing accident while traveling between Venice and Rovinj. He was survived by his parents and younger brother Marko.
